A front entry does a lot of work for your home. It's the first thing people see, and it sets the tone before anyone even reaches the door. The problem is, most front beds quietly fade over time - bare patches appear, old mulch breaks down, and the whole thing starts to look a little tired. It doesn't take a full overhaul to fix that.
Here's what we worked with on this one: an existing curved paver walkway leading up to the house, surrounded by established shrubs and a bed that needed some life added back into it. The bones were solid. What it needed was fresh mulch, some well-chosen perennials tucked into the right spots, and a clean edge to pull it all together.
Fresh black mulch does more than just look sharp - it holds moisture, keeps weeds down, and gives every plant around it a chance to stand out. Pair that with new perennials like the heuchera and hostas planted here, and you go from a bed that blends into the background to one that actually draws your eye down the walkway.
The curved paver path already had great character. Framing it with a clean, dark bed on one side makes the whole entry feel intentional. Low-profile landscape lights dot the bed too, so the space works morning and night. Small details like that are what separate a yard that looks maintained from one that looks designed.
You don't need to tear everything out to get a result like this. Sometimes the smartest move is working with what's already there and just giving it the right support. Fresh mulch, a handful of new plants placed thoughtfully, and a clean edge line - that's often all it takes.
